Yacht tow
The volunteers at Aberystwyth RNLI were called out to assist a wooden sailing vessel
The Atlantic 85 class lifeboat 'Spirit of Friendship' was launched with 4 crew on board to go and assist the yacht 'Brother Jack'. With little to no wind and an overheating engine the yacht was unable to continue on its journey South. The experienced sailors took the decision to call for assistance.
The lifeboat quickly located the vessel which was taken under tow and returned to Aberystwyth harbour, where the yacht had left earlier in the day, for further investigation of the problem.
Whilst the crew were towing the vessel back to harbour they learnt that the Wooden Fairey Atalanta class sailing boat was built in the 1950s and is one of only 8 of its configuration to still be on the seas. The lifeboat returned to station at 9:45pm
